Power Supply To Kayu Ara Flats Restored - Bandar Utama Rep

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Bernama) -- The power supply disruption at Kayu Ara Flats in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, following serious damage to the main switchboard (MSB) due to a fire in the building’s electrical room, was fully resolved on Tuesday.

Bandar Utama assemblywoman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the damaged main switchboard was repaired through official allocations from her constituency’s office and with the cooperation of the local authorities, although the facility falls under the responsibility of the Joint Management Body (JMB).

Jamaliah, who is also the Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee chairman, said the disruption was not due to a failure by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to supply electricity, but was caused by a burnt and damaged MSB component that distributes electricity throughout the building.

“The damage caused a total power outage and disrupted the water supply as the pump motor could not operate. The building is a privately owned stratified property managed by the JMB, which is responsible for maintaining the MSB,” she said in a Facebook post.

She was also informed that the MSB had not been maintained since 2007. The JMB has since appointed a contractor to inspect and carry out repairs, and requested assistance from her office to cover the repair costs.

She said the total repair cost was RM25,000, with the JMB able to cover only RM5,000, while the remaining RM20,000 was borne by her constituency office to assist affected residents.

Responding to claims that repair works were delayed, Jamaliah said the project was implemented under the constituency’s office minor project allocation, which requires several procedures before execution.

However, due to the urgency, the process - which normally takes two to four weeks - was shortened to two working days.

She added that besides instructing her officers to coordinate with the JMB, she also personally contacted relevant parties to ensure the issue was resolved as quickly as possible.
