06/03/2026 03:25 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- The “Wira TVET” initiative must be strengthened through closer collaboration between industry players and technical training institutions to ensure a more structured approach to talent development and meet the needs of a highly skilled workforce, said Yayasan Mahir Malaysia chairman Datuk P. Sri Ganes.

He said the strategic collaboration was crucial to ensure the local workforce possessed skills relevant to industry needs, particularly amid rapid technological changes and the evolving job market.

“Yayasan Mahir Malaysia launched the Wira TVET branding to encourage greater participation in high-impact TVET programmes and to highlight the skilled workforce as a key driver of national development,” he said during the recent TVET-Industry Engagement Session organised with the Ministry of Human Resources.

Sri Ganes, who is also the chief executive officer of SG TVET Group Berhad (SG TVET), said that Yayasan Mahir Malaysia was committed to facilitating collaboration between industry players and skills training centres to produce more competent and resilient “Wira TVET”.

He said SG TVET has also introduced initiatives to elevate TVET graduates as national skills heroes, recognising their critical role in driving the country’s economic growth.

Sri Ganes said that through the initiative, the company had launched six superhero characters known as “Wira TVET”, symbolising the wide range of high-impact skills offered at institutions under the SG TVET Group.

“This superhero-concept approach aims to highlight the potential of TVET graduates and change public perception, showing that skills-based careers are prestigious and relevant to future industry needs,” he said.

The six characters representthe country’s key skill fields, with Aero Wira-Skybyte for drones, Mecha Wira-Torque for mechatronics, Volt Wira-ChargeR for electric vehicles, Chef Wira-Flamebatik for hospitality, Tech Wira-Cipher for information technology, and Media Wira-PixelRaya for digital and creative media

The engagement session brought together senior representatives from ministry agencies, industry players, and skills training providers nationwide to strengthen the development of the country’s skills ecosystem.

Discussions centred on enhancing skills in key future technology areas, such as electric vehicles (EV), artificial intelligence (AI), drone technology, automation, and industrial digitalisation.

Meanwhile, Skills Development Department director-general Dr Kamaruzaman Md Ali, who was also present, said that transforming the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system required a collective commitment from the government, industry, and skills training providers.

During the session, participants also expressed their appreciation to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan for his commitment to empowering the TVET sector, including through the recently passed amendments to the National Skills Development Act 2006 (Act 652).
