PUTRAJAYA, March 6 (Bernama) -- Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) has distributed 2,000 packs of bubur lambuk in reusable food containers and tiffin carriers to visitors at the Precinct 3 Ramadan Bazaar here to encourage waste reduction during the fasting month.
The initiative, held under the ‘Tapau Elak Sisa’ (Pack to Avoid Waste) campaign, was carried out as part of the Alam Flora Kongsi Rezeki programme to reduce reliance on single-use packaging, which surges during the festive season.
Alam Flora chief executive officer Shariman Yusuf Mohamed Zain said using reusable containers is a practical and effective way to reduce the volume of solid waste sent to landfills.
“During Ramadan, the increase in food transactions often contributes to a rise in packaging waste. Through the 'Tapau Elak Sisa' campaign, we encourage the public to bring their own containers or use tiffin carriers.
“This effort not only reduces waste but also fosters a more sustainable culture of reuse,” he told reporters here today.
Shariman Yusuf also said that the habit of bringing one's own containers also helps prevent over-purchasing, which otherwise contributes to food waste and increased solid waste.
“Small changes in daily habits can have a significant impact on the environment. If this practice is cultivated consistently, it will contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment in the long run,” he added.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) in conjunction with the Putrajaya Ramadan Festival.
The initiative is also part of Alam Flora’s parent company, Malakoff Corporation Bhd's environmental aspirations, with a focus on environmental management and sustainable solutions for the community and the environment.
