Kota Setar And Pendang Schools To Resume Face-to-face Classes Tomorrow

31/03/2026 01:47 PM

ALOR SETAR, March 31 (Bernama) -- School sessions in Kota Setar and Pendang will resume face-to-face tomorrow after both districts recorded Level 1 (Alert) temperature readings of between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius since yesterday.

Kedah Education Department (JPN) director Abdul Rahim Mat said the department continuously monitors the temperature readings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) before deciding on the implementation of home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) in the state.

“In the past couple of days, rainfall has helped bring temperatures down to Level 1. Previously, it was Level 2, which is why PdPR sessions were conducted to keep students safe from the heat,” he told a press conference following the announcement of the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results for Kedah today.

He added that with the temperature readings now lower, schools will operate as usual, although all activities will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines provided and distributed to schools, parents, and students.

“Students need to be protected from the heat and encouraged to drink plenty of water. The PdPR sessions ran smoothly overall, even though some students had to share devices with their parents.

“Even with these challenges, the learning process was successfully carried out, with only the place and timing of lessons changing,” he said.

A total of 86,030 students, namely 65,634 students from 154 schools in Kota Setar and 20,396 students from 52 schools in Pendang, took part in PdPR over three days starting Sunday.
