KAJANG, March 31 (Bernama) -- Any decisions regarding school sessions, including the possible implementation of home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) amid the country’s hot weather, will be made in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry will examine both short- and long-term measures to address the effects of extreme heat, with priority given to the well-being and safety of the school community.
“Every plan will be coordinated with MOH and other relevant agencies so that the measures are well-organised and effective, and do not disrupt students’ learning.
“Our priority is the education of our children as well as the well-being of the school community,” she told reporters at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Kajang today.
Fadhlina said proposals under consideration include the provision of covered areas to allow school activities to take place in a safer environment.
She also did not rule out the use of air conditioning in schools.
“These are all good suggestions. God willing, these proposals will be considered at the ministry level,” she said.
MetMalaysia said the hot weather currently affecting the country is expected to continue until the early phase of the Southwest Monsoon in June, due to drier atmospheric conditions and lower rainfall.
