KESUMA Reviews Maternity Leave Allowance Under PERKESO

SUBANG, April 2 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) is reviewing a proposal to introduce a maternity leave assistance allowance through the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).

Its minister, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said the proposed allowance, to be implemented under PERKESO’s insurance system, is expected to benefit more than 100,000 mothers nationwide.

“Women are not only contributors but also key drivers of the national economy,” he said at a KESUMA Labour Day 2026 programme here today.

He said KESUMA is also developing further measures to enhance workers’ welfare, which will be implemented in stages.

The programme, attended by about 500 participants, serves as a platform to strengthen cooperation between the government, employers and workers.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Ramanan said he had an audience with the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, today to present updates on the development of the PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre in the state.

He said the project is expected to strengthen the country’s social security system, particularly in supporting the rehabilitation and return to work of PERKESO contributors who are injured or disabled.

“The centre will provide comprehensive and integrated rehabilitation services, in line with the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and social protection in Terengganu,” the statement said.

He also expressed commitment to ensuring the project is implemented as planned and benefits workers requiring rehabilitation support and reintegration into employment.
