KOTA BHARU, April 6 (Bernama) -- Identifying sources of water loss, and focusing on immediate pipe repairs are among early measures taken by the Kelantan state government to ensure adequate water supply in the current drought season.
State Public Works, Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin said they have also mobilised static tanks to affected areas so that water can be channelled to residents in need.
"We don’t know when the drought will end. So the public is advised to use water sparingly throughout this period to ensure adequate supply,” he told reporters after visiting the families of victims of a fire in Kampung Chabang Tiga, Kedai Buloh here today.
He added that the state government would not compromise in terms of costs to control non-revenue water and ensure the continued supply of water to citizens in the state.
Kelantan state health director Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob said yesterday that four districts in the state - Kuala Krai, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah and Machang - were designated Heatwave Level 1 after recording temperatures of 35 to 37 degrees Celcius for three consecutive days.
