12/04/2026 08:17 PM

BARCELONA, April 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has become the first country to formally recognise the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 as a national mission, reflecting its firm commitment to efforts to stop the genocide in Gaza.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the mission carries a national mandate and has the support of all Members of Parliament in Malaysia.

“Malaysia is proud to be the first to endorse this mission as a national initiative. Our presence here is to observe its progress with full commitment,” he said at a Sumud Nusantara press conference here today.

Amirudin, who is also the head of the mission said Malaysia’s involvement transcends religion and race and is based on universal humanitarian principles.

He highlighted the worsening situation in Gaza, with about 70,000 lives lost and restrictions on essential supplies such as food, medicine and clean water.

Driven by humanitarian spirit and shared responsibility, participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 and the Sumud Nusantara mission sends a clear message that the genocide in Gaza must be stopped,” he said.

He added that Malaysia’s formal recognition reflects the support of its 34 million people for the global coalition, which brings together 3,000 participants from 100 countries and involves more than 100 vessels.

GSF is scheduled to depart from here today as part of an international effort to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza and address the worsening humanitarian and political crisis.

The mission involves more than 80 vessels and 1,000 participants from around the world, combining maritime efforts with global activities on land, including legal action and community campaigns in various countries.
