Bernama Honoured For MDA News Coverage, Awareness Campaigns

PUTRAJAYA, April 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was today honoured with the Medical Device Authority (MDA) Media Award 2025 in the newspaper and news portal category.

The award was presented by Health Ministry deputy secretary-general (Management) Datuk Azah Hanim Ahmad to Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin at the MDA Excellent Service Awards 2025 ceremony.

Also present was MDA chief executive Dr Muralitharan Paramasua.

The accolade recognises Bernama’s commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality coverage of MDA activities and initiatives over the past year.

Nur-ul Afida said the recognition reflects Bernama’s ongoing support for MDA’s efforts to elevate the medical sector through accurate and effective public communication.

She noted that Bernama has consistently reported on MDA’s role in regulating medical devices, ensuring products are properly registered before reaching consumers.

“We also highlight MDA’s efforts in promoting products that can be utilised within the local medical industry,” she said.

Nur-ul Afida added that receiving the award consecutively since 2023 is a proud achievement and a testament to the editorial team’s dedication to quality journalism.

She also expressed appreciation to Bernama’s editorial staff for their commitment to delivering clear and effective information on medical device safety.

Meanwhile, Bernama news editor Suriati Sidek Ahmad described the award as a meaningful recognition that would further motivate the newsroom to produce reports raising public awareness on the importance of using certified and registered medical devices.

“This award inspires us to continue producing more stories to raise awareness, especially among young people, about the importance of using legitimate and registered health devices,” she said.

Feature and Current Affairs journalist Muhammad Basir Roslan, who has been actively covering MDA-related issues, said the media plays a crucial role in enhancing public awareness on the safe use of registered medical devices.

“We at Bernama will continue to produce more news and feature articles on medical device issues,” he said.

In other categories, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) won the television award, while BFM took the radio award.
