Balanced Communication Needed To Avoid Panic Over Global Energy Crisis - Saifuddin Nasution

PUTRAJAYA, April 13 (Bernama) -- The government is facing a major challenge in ensuring that the public is prepared for the potential impact of the global energy crisis without triggering panic or complacency, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

He said a balanced approach in delivering information is a priority — being transparent while at the same time striving to focus on the welfare of the people.

“So our approach is to be frank. To share information. Yes, we are facing supply issues. We are facing the challenge of rising prices.

“We do not want the public to panic, meaning there must be no denial syndrome. At the same time, we also do not want the public to become complacent and adopt a business-as-usual attitude. This is the challenge,” he said when speaking at the ministry’s monthly assembly here today.

He said he wants the public to understand the reality of the situation without causing unnecessary confusion or pressure in society.

He also stressed the responsibility of enforcement teams, which must be strengthened in response to the current crisis, particularly as significant price differences are driving “channel switching” activities, thereby increasing the risk of smuggling, including via sea routes, which directly challenges agencies in carrying out their core duties.

Also present were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
