Global Energy Crisis: Strategic Ties Help M’sia Navigate Supply Issues - MKN

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s strategic position in the global manufacturing chain, along with strong diplomatic ties with international industry players, enables the country to tackle the impact of the global energy crisis more effectively.

National Security Council (MKN) director-general Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin said this advantage gives Malaysia room and opportunities to obtain alternative fuel sources if the situation becomes critical.

He cited Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), which operates worldwide, as an example of how its global network and strong ties with major industry players could be used for this purpose.

“We are in a strategic position within the global manufacturing chain, so we already have ties with key players. Petronas operates all over the world and can use those connections to secure fuel supplies,” he said.

He said this while appearing as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme, titled Mendepani Krisis Tenaga Global: Kesiapsiagaan dan Ketahanan Negara, tonight.

Elaborating, Raja Nurshirwan said Malaysia’s strong bilateral diplomatic ties with other countries also help cushion the impact of global supply‑chain disruptions due to the crisis.

He also said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s visit to Malaysia, scheduled for Wednesday, will include discussions on fuel‑supply cooperation between the two countries.

“So, we have these kinds of relationships that put us in a stronger position to handle this situation than many other countries around the world,” he added.
