KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Bernama) -- National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has called on Malaysians to continue valuing, preserving and elevating arts as a foundation for building a united, harmonious and resilient national identity.
In a Facebook post in conjunction with the World Art Day today, he said the arts play a vital role in shaping human civilisation and strengthening global harmony.
“Since its introduction by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), the celebration has served as a platform to recognise the contributions of arts practitioners in building a more inclusive and competitive society,” he said.
According to him, April 15 was chosen to mark the birth of the great figure Leonardo da Vinci, symbolising excellence in creativity, innovation and cross-disciplinary thinking.
Aaron said the arts are a universal language capable of uniting people regardless of background, while emphasising Malaysia’s art diversity, which is drawn from more than 200 ethnic and sub-ethnic groups, including traditional dances, music, handicrafts and modern visual arts, reflect the richness of the nation’s identity.
“Art serves as a bridge that narrows differences, fosters mutual respect and strengthens the spirit of unity among the people,” he added.
