19/04/2026 09:05 PM

GEORGE TOWN, April 19 (Bernama) -- A 14-year-old girl, K. Poonyamitra, has entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) after successfully memorising and reciting the first 300 digits of Pi.

The Form Two student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (P) St. George achieved the feat on Feb 9, earning recognition for ‘Most Pi Recited from Memory by a Teenager’.

She said the achievement was the result of consistent practice over two months, during which she set herself a daily target of memorising at least 10 digits.

“I wake up every day and set my own target, for example, to memorise 10 digits, and I make sure I achieve it. It was difficult at first, but once I got into the rhythm, it became easier to remember the numbers,” she told Bernama today.

Poonyamitra was met at the launch of the Digitalisation of the Management System for temples under the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (LWHPP) 2026 at Sri Kunj Bihari Temple here.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo launched the event.

At the event, she received a computer and a certificate in recognition of her entry into the Malaysia Book of Records.

Poonyamitra said her interest in numbers and mathematics had motivated her to take on the challenge, enabling her to become the first person in Malaysia to set a record in the category.

The only child said she hoped her achievement would inspire other students to challenge themselves in areas they are passionate about, particularly mathematics and memorisation.

Meanwhile, her mother, S. Thilagam, said Poonyamitra had also won the Memory Athlete category in the Kids Got Talent Malaysia Season 9 competition in 2025 after successfully memorising the first 300 digits of Pi.

“She stepped onto the international stage by taking part in an online audition for America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 21 on Jan 11, and also emerged runner-up in the ASEAN World Records Rising Starz Icon 2025,” she said.
