Bernama Photographer Hurt In Crash Gets Tabung Kasih@HAWANA Aid

KOTA BHARU, April 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) photographer injured in Saturday's road crash became the 726th recipient of Tabung Kasih@HAWANA donation today.

Bernama Kelantan bureau chief Muhammad Afiq Mohd Asri presented the donation to Muhammad Mustaqim Khairuddin, 33, at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital to help ease his burden during treatment.

Muhammad Mustaqim said the crash happened at 8.30 am while he was en route to Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) to cover the opening of its new terminal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The incident occurred on Jalan Wakaf Siku when I swerved to avoid a car ahead, lost control, hit the divider and was thrown from my motorcycle.

“As a result of the crash, I suffered a broken shoulder and right thigh. My condition is now stable, but movement is very limited,” he told Bernama today.

Muhammad Mustaqim, who has served 10 years with the agency, now awaits surgery next Sunday to have an implant fitted in his right thigh.

“…my wife Yasirah Yauzi, 30, is taking care of me. She helps with all my daily needs, including eating, getting around and treatment.

“I’m very grateful for Tabung Kasih@HAWANA’s support and the constant backing from my media colleagues,” he said.

Tabung Kasih@HAWANA is an initiative by the Communications Ministry through Bernama, launched in April 2023 to mark National Journalists' Day (HAWANA).

The welfare fund provides medical support, emergency aid and one-off financial assistance to media practitioners facing hardship due to illness, accidents or urgent needs.

The fund supports journalists, editors, photographers, cameramen, producers, freelancers, and retirees, having aided 725 media workers with a total allocation of RM2.114 million since its launch.
