VM2026 Vaisakhi Fest Underscores Multicultural Unity, Tourism Growth

21/04/2026 02:56 PM

PUTRAJAYA, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM 2026) Vaisakhi Fest underscores Malaysia’s multicultural identity as a key driver of unity and tourism growth, said Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Chiew Choon Man.

In a statement today, Chiew said Malaysia’s multicultural identity continues to be a defining strength of the nation as reflected through celebrations such as Vaisakhi Fest, which brings together diverse communities in a shared expression of harmony and cultural appreciation.

"Last Saturday, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), together with the Malaysia Tourism Promotional Board (Tourism Malaysia), supported the VM2026 Vaisakhi Fest held at Lanai Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC) in Kuala Lumpur.

"The event was further highlighted by the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, reflecting the significance of the celebration as one of the signature events under VM2026," he said.

Chiew said Vaisakhi carries a strong message of unity and aligns with the Malaysia MADANI values of togetherness, respect, and shared national identity among Malaysia’s diverse communities.

He added that cultural celebrations such as Vaisakhi also enhance Malaysia’s tourism sector by showcasing the country’s multicultural heritage to international visitors, and have attracted tourists from China, India and Europe who came to experience Malaysia’s festive cultural diversity.

“Malaysia’s multiculturalism and diversity are national assets and among our greatest strengths. This is especially evident in our tourism, arts and culture. It is not common to find in other parts of the world.

“In this society, people of different races, religions and cultural backgrounds come together to celebrate each other’s festive seasons as shared national occasions,” he said.

He said Malaysia’s multicultural identity is reflected in the way harmony is experienced through food, music, dance, traditions and public celebrations, which collectively make the country unique and highly attractive to visitors from around the world.

Chiew added that in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration to strengthen unity and diversity through tourism, arts and culture, MOTAC, together with Tourism Malaysia, will continue to support and promote meaningful cultural events and festivities.

“Our multicultural diversity is our strength, and we remain committed to preserving and celebrating it,” he said.

Last Saturday at the VM 2026 Vaisakhi Fest, Anwar was reported to have said that Malaysia’s diversity is the nation’s core strength and that its cultures, traditions and communities form the foundation of national unity.
