IPOH, April 22 (Bernama) -- PROTON Holdings Berhad (Proton) continues to expand collaboration between industry and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in efforts to strengthen career pathways for youth in the national automotive sector.
Through an industrial visit programme at its facility in the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim, Proton provided 35 trainees from GiatMARA Tanjong Malim with the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into actual industry requirements and potential career prospects.
Proton chief human resources officer, Dr Kasuma Satria Mat Jadi, said the programme focuses on building job readiness among trainees, including exposure to professional work culture, quality standards and the use of modern technology in vehicle manufacturing.
“This effort is important in ensuring that local young talent not only possess technical skills, but also a comprehensive understanding of the evolving industry landscape.
“Early exposure like this helps trainees make clearer career plans and enhances their employability in the automotive sector,” he said in a statement today.
He said that during the visit, trainees were also given the opportunity to attend a sharing session with Proton’s head of design, Azlan Othman, who spoke on the role of creativity and innovation in modern automotive product development.
He added that the initiative, supported by Proton, not only provides valuable exposure for trainees but also highlights the strategic role of AHTV in bridging the gap between skills training and actual industry requirements.
“The development of AHTV is seen as an important catalyst in creating a comprehensive ecosystem that supports talent growth, innovation and employment opportunities in the automotive sector,” he said.
Meanwhile, GiatMARA Tanjung Malim head Fadilah Abdullah said such programmes give trainees an added advantage in assessing their career inclinations based on real industry experience.
“This experience is important in inspiring students to enhance their skills and pursue careers in the automotive sector.
“It allows them to see first-hand the requirements and standards needed to be among the leading brands in Malaysia’s automotive industry. Experiences like this are vital in motivating our students to continue improving their skills and venture into careers in the automotive sector,” Fadilah said.
