IPOH, April 24 (Bernama) -- The Perak state government assures that Sungai Perak and Bukit Merah Dam are stable, said State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
Mohammad Nizar said technical departments and agencies remain on standby, conducting continuous monitoring to ensure public safety, water supply sustainability and irrigation needs.
"The reading at Temengor Lake shows the current water level at 239.51 metres, which is at a controlled level and still below the normal level of 240 metres.
"As of 8 am today, the water level at Bukit Merah Dam stood at 7.437 metres with an irrigation alert status," he said in a statement today.
He added that the state government will remain alert on water supply developments for the needs of the agricultural sector, particularly in padi-growing areas.
However, he said that although most parts of Perak recorded no rain in the last 24 hours, continuous monitoring is being carried out, particularly in the downstream areas of Sungai Perak, which are at risk of being affected by high tide phenomena.
Additionally, he said that all major dams along Sungai Perak, namely Chenderoh, Kenering, Bersia, and Temengor, remain in good and stable condition.
He said the state government, through its relevant agencies, is also keeping a close watch on readings from monitoring stations in Parit and Teluk Sena within the Perak Tengah district to ensure that pump house operations and raw water intake systems are not disrupted.
Therefore, he advised the public to always obtain verified information from official government channels and to follow instructions from authorities should there be any changes in weather or water levels.
