YADIM To Introduce Training Module To Strengthen Governance Of Islamic NGOs

26/04/2026 08:29 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) is developing a structured training module on financial management and governance to strengthen governance standards among Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGOs), following concerns over alleged mismanagement and misuse of zakat funds.

YADIM president Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom said the initiative aims to enhance integrity, standardise best practices in fund management, and improve transparency in programme implementation among Islamic NGOs.

He said it is also in line with resolutions from previous Islamic NGO capacity-building engagement programmes, which emphasised regular training on public fund management as well as strengthening a culture of integrity through certification by authorised bodies.

“YADIM takes seriously the issue of alleged mismanagement and misuse of zakat funds, which has now attracted widespread public attention.

“This issue not only involves legal aspects, but also has significant implications on the level of public trust in welfare institutions and dakwah movements in the country,” he said in a statement today.

Hasan said to enhance accountability, YADIM urges all NGOs under the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Council (MAIM) umbrella to have annual audits conducted by certified auditors as a step to strengthen transparency and public confidence.

He added that the measure is also in line with the call by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan for every NGO to have robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure transparency in management and financial practices.
