MB Aminuddin To Continue Duties As Usual - PM Anwar

28/04/2026 02:58 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 April (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun will continue carrying out his duties as Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

He said the directive was conveyed by the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, during an audience yesterday.

“I had an audience with Tuanku Muhriz yesterday and expressed my gratitude for His Royal Highness’s consideration, particularly his decree that the Menteri Besar continue to stay put for the sake of the state’s interests and the well-being of the people.

“At this point, based on His Royal Highness’s decree conveyed yesterday, the state government should continue to function as usual until there is a need for any changes.

“For now, I have asked the Menteri Besar to carry on as usual. The legal process does not hinder this, and we will not obstruct it. It should proceed properly, without affecting the institution of the Ruler or the Undang, which we must uphold,” he told reporters after a Temu Anwar session and the launch of UCSI University’s new building project, here.

Yesterday, all 14 UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan unanimously withdrew support for the state government led by Aminuddin, citing the ongoing leadership crisis.

Anwar said the crisis has no wider implications and does not threaten the stability of the Unity Government.

He added that he expects to meet UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the latest developments.

Without setting a timeline for resolving the political impasse, Anwar said any decision must take into account the state’s legal framework.

“I cannot give a specific date as we should allow space for all parties to negotiate properly. Decisions must reflect an understanding of Negeri Sembilan’s constitutional framework. For instance, the appointment of the Menteri Besar involves the four Undangs (traditional chieftains).

“If appointments are made with the consent of the four Undangs, then any resignation must follow the same process. It is not as straightforward as it may seem,” he said.

Anwar also stressed that any eventual decision must safeguard the interests of the state and uphold the monarchy.

“So far, there is no issue of dissolving the State Assembly. Based on my discussions and after seeking the views and advice of His Royal Highness, he (Aminuddin) has been asked to continue in his duties while other processes proceed in accordance with the law,” he said.

Anwar also urged all parties to refrain from speculation and to allow space for negotiations to proceed smoothly.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the Prime Minister said the Federal Government would continue to provide full cooperation to ensure continued economic progress and the well-being of the people.

“I also call on the people, especially in Negeri Sembilan, to remain respectful and maintain order, especially in discussing matters concerning the monarch institution and state constitution,” he said.
