JEDDAH, May 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysian haj pilgrims have been urged not to neglect their health, especially after performing the umrah, to ensure they remain fit ahead of the peak of the fifth pillar of Islam.
Head of the Malaysian Haj Delegation Hisham Harun said the increasingly hot weather in Makkah requires pilgrims to be more mindful of their health to avoid any complications.
“After the long journey from Malaysia and performing the umrah, pilgrims are advised to get sufficient rest to regain their energy.
“With the weather becoming hotter, pilgrims must also ensure adequate hydration, take their medication as prescribed, and take care of their health in preparation for the haj,” he told reporters here today.
Earlier, Malaysia’s Consul General in Jeddah, Tengku Mohd Dzaraif Raja Abdul Kadir, said temperatures could exceed 40 degrees Celsius, especially during the peak of the wukuf in Arafah.
During the 2024 haj season, extreme temperatures of up to 51.8 degrees Celsius were recorded in Makkah, serving as a reminder for this year’s pilgrims to be better prepared for the challenges of unpredictable hot weather.
Hisham said the period before wukuf should be utilised as best as possible, as the haj requires extraordinary physical and mental endurance.
He also expressed gratitude that the arrival process and movement arrangements of Malaysian haj pilgrims have so far proceeded smoothly without any major issues.
He said compliance with regulations, including the use of valid haj permits through systems set by the Saudi Arabian authorities, has also helped ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims to Makkah.
“Alhamdulillah, all processes have gone well, and we hope this situation will continue until all pilgrims have arrived,” he said.
