PUTRAJAYA, May 5 (Bernama) -- The government has agreed to expand the Rahmah MADANI Sales Programme (PJRM) initiative nationwide by increasing the frequency of its implementation to a weekly basis in an effort to help ease the cost of living for the people, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the PJRM initiative under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living was targeting a total of 30,000 programmes this year.
According to Anwar, the PJRM initiative, which has proven capable of offering prices of up to 30 per cent lower than market prices, will be held in every state constituency, suburban locations, rural areas and selected villages.
“Last year, the government implemented more than 25,000 PJRM involving all state constituencies in the country, so I want this to begin immediately, and for 2026, we have announced 30,000 programmes.
“In this way, buyers will have certainty on where goods can be purchased and on fixed days and schedules,” he said at a press conference on the Global Supply Crisis after chairing the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting here today.
Anwar said PJRM also involved small traders to ensure the group benefited from the government’s initiatives.
“We do not want this (PJRM) to become a platform for large companies, but to ensure that the benefits of the Rahmah MADANI Sales provide opportunities for small traders to sell their goods at lower prices,” he said.
Anwar said that although the government's efforts and initiatives did not resolve all problems, they could help ease some of the pressure people faced due to the global supply crisis.
“God willing, in our weekly engagements (the MTEN meeting on Tuesday), and the Cabinet meeting the following day, every Wednesday, we will continue to examine and seek new measures to reduce the burden borne by the people,” he said.
