JOHOR BAHRU, May 5 (Bernama) -- The Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation (YSIJ) has provided assistance to 24 families affected by a recent storm in Pontian, who are now sheltering at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Melayu Raya temporary relief centre.
A post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s official Facebook page said the contribution is part of ongoing efforts to support disaster victims by providing essential food and electrical appliances, such as rice cookers and kettles.
YSIJ managing trustee Datuk Avinderjit Singh and the foundation’s chief executive officer Mohd Anizam Jamian presented the aid to Pontian District Officer Kamalludin Jamal, before it was handed over to the victims.
“YSIJ also contributed RM5,000 in cash to the Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Quran Azizurrahim, which was also affected by the incident last Sunday (May 3).
“Datuk Avinderjit and Mohd Anizam also spent time checking on the victims at the relief centre,” the post said today.
Victim Muhammad Zurin Mohd Idris described the disaster as an unforgettable nightmare, with the sudden storm and strong winds leaving no time to save belongings.
“It happened so fast. At that moment, my only thought was to save my wife and our three-month-old baby,” he said, expressing gratitude that his family survived the ordeal.
