Govt Closely Monitors Development Projects, Prioritises Public Interest - Akmal Nasrullah

KULIM, May 7 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Economy will continue to closely monitor the implementation of development projects, particularly those under its purview, to ensure they remain on track and are not delayed, especially for ongoing projects of public interest.

Its Minister, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, said the ministry was continuously assessing the need for government intervention to address the impact of the crisis through the weekly National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting.

He said the government needed to ensure that development could continue, as the spillover benefits from development projects would have a lasting impact on the people and the country.

“We must ensure that development continues, as the spillover effects of these development projects are not felt overnight.

“In cases where projects cannot be continued, for example water supply-related projects, we are talking about future needs that span many years,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) here today.

Akmal Nasrullah said that at the same time, should the fiscal burden continue to rise, the government needed to prioritise projects that were of public interest, especially those already in progress.

“That is why our advice to all parties is to keep finding ways to maintain current performance, as well as to proceed with planned developments,” he said.

Meanwhile, Akmal Nasrullah said his visit to the Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) was to assess the latest developments in Phase Five of the industrial park, which must be implemented smoothly.

He said that among the matters given attention were water and energy supply aspects to support the needs of industrial development in the area.

“The federal government has provided RM132 million in development funds for infrastructure purposes, as well as a RM195 million loan for land acquisition works and related matters,” he said.
