Electrocution Incident Should Spur Safety Inspections In Schools - Daro Assemblyman

08/05/2026 08:18 PM

SIBU, May 8 (Bernama) -- The incident where a student was electrocuted to death and another injurted in a school in Daro should spur safety inspections in other schools, especially those with wooden buildings that are more prone to such risks.

Daro state assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad said electrical wiring systems in schools need to be examined as old buildings might need complete renovations.

“Not just existing wiring needs to be checked, but there is the possibility that additional wiring was done without following the proper specification or prosedures that needs to be looked into.

“This includes wiring work done by uncertified parties,” he said in a statement today, commenting on the electrocution death of Fahrin Jumarudy Abdullah, 16, and the injuries suffered by another 15-year-old student in a secondary school in Daro on Wednesday.

He added that safety aspects cannot be viewed from merely a cost aspect but should take the safety of students into consideration.

He also stressed the importance of electrical safety awareness among students, especially those living in dormitories to help avoid untoward incidents.
