MELAKA, May 9 (Bernama) -- The Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency gets a boost of RM127,000 for 34 schools to upgrade infrastructure and extend educational assistance to excellent students and needy groups.
Deputy Minister of Higher Education Adam Adli Abd Halim said the assistance proves the government's ongoing commitment to ensuring that no school is left out of receiving the benefits of educational development.
Adam, who is also the Member of Parliament for Hang Tuah Jaya, said that of the total, 23 primary schools each received RM3,000 while 11 secondary schools received RM5,000 each.
"In addition, special assistance was also distributed to the Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) of the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) in Bukit Katil amounting to RM10,000 for the acquisition of information and communication technology (ICT) equipment while Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabudin received RM15,000 for upgrading the school hall," he said.
He told reporters after officiating the School Infrastructure Contribution Ceremony and Hang Tuah Jaya Outstanding Student Awards which was also attended by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil here today.
He said investment in education was not only focused on the development of school infrastructure but also included ongoing assistance to students before and after sitting for examinations including tuition, educational assistance, devices and financial support to students, especially in the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency.
“We have a lot of collaboration with schools and the District Education Office (PPD) and this is an ongoing agenda that will continue to be improved from time to time.
“In the first year in the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency, we spent more than RM600,000 on education including contributions to schools, students and infrastructure facilities and now the amount has increased to almost RM1 million,” he said.
He said the government also paid attention to improving school facilities and continued to receive support from the Ministry of Education, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Ministry of Communications.
“We want to ensure that the agenda of empowering young people through education, especially tertiary education, can continue because the country needs more skilled workers in the future. For that reason, educational assistance is not limited to excellent students, but also involves students from B40 and M40 families who need support to further their studies," he said.
Earlier at the ceremony, more than 70 excellent students received awards, including students who attended school outside the area but came from the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency.
