ALOR GAJAH, May 10 (Bernama) -- The Skillbox@Kelab Malaysiaku programme serves as a platform to nurture the country’s future generation of leaders, said Information Department (JaPen) director-general Julina Johan.
She said the three-day programme, which began on Friday and concluded today for the Peninsular Zone level, attracted about 500 participants aged between 13 and 17 who are members of Kelab Malaysiaku at their respective schools.
“Kelab Malaysiaku is one of JaPen’s products aimed at shaping the nation’s future leaders.
“Besides instilling patriotic and nationalistic spirit, we have also introduced several new modules, including Mobile Journalism (MoJo), as some schools already have their own multimedia units,” she told reporters after closing the Skillbox@Kelab Malaysiaku Peninsular Zone 2026 Programme at Permata Resort Camp today.
Also present was JaPen Melaka director Mazli Hamdan.
Meanwhile, Julina said JaPen would assist the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in disseminating information to the public regarding the proposed minimum age limit of 16 for social media use.
She said the move was in line with the government’s intention, particularly through the Ministry of Communications, to create a safer internet environment for users, especially children and teenagers.
The proposed age restriction is expected to be implemented as early as the second half of this year through a regulatory sandbox phase, in line with a gradual approach to assess the policy’s effectiveness before full enforcement.
The government is also considering using digital identity verification systems, such as age-verification technology, to ensure more accurate online age checks for users.
