MELAKA, May 11 (Bernama) -- The water reticulation system upgrading project involving three Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) areas in Sungai Udang here, costing RM13.5 million, is expected to be fully completed in the near future.
Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said the project has so far reached 99 per cent completion and is operational to ensure sufficient and safe water supply at RKAT Desa Tun Razak, Desa Ria Tangga Batu, and Desa Taming Sari One and Two.
“The upgrading project for the water reticulation system took about two years and is now almost complete, effectively resolving water supply issues affecting about 1,800 homes in the three areas.
“Only about one per cent of the project remains to be completed, involving requirements set by the local authorities that we still need to fulfil, but overall the system is already functioning,” he told reporters after visiting the project site at Sungai Udang Camp here today.
He said that in the event of a water supply disruption in the area, the system is expected to support residents’ water needs for up to two and a half days, compared with the previous system, which could only sustain water supply for one day.
Meanwhile, he said the Defence Ministry is also in the process of implementing a replacement of the water supply system at Terendak Camp here, involving an estimated cost of RM45 million.
The initiative is expected to be carried out within a year after several processes, including the appointment of consultants to assess the bill of quantities (BQ) and project plans, are completed.
“The initiative is being implemented because the water system at Terendak Camp is old and outdated, and requires a new system to resolve water supply issues at the camp,” he said.
