BATU PAHAT, May 11 (Bernama) -- Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek today visited the family of a pupil from Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Maimon who was killed after being hit by a van in front of the school on May 5.
She arrived at the family home of the Year Two pupil in Kampung Parit Mustaffa, Parit Sulong, here at about 5.30 pm to pay her respects to the victim’s parents, Asmilah Tukiran, 37, and Ahmad Fareez Khalid, 39.
Fadhlina spent about 30 minutes there, presenting cash assistance and essential items to the family.
In the 12.30 pm incident, Nur Aini Umairah died at the scene after being hit by a van that was leaving the school compound as students were heading home.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Fareez hopes the Education Ministry and the state education department can improve safety standard operating procedures, especially in primary schools, so that incidents like the one involving his daughter will not happen again.
Earlier in Johor Bahru, Fadhlina Sidek said the Ministry of Education is enhancing its Safe School Management Guidelines to ensure they keep pace with current challenges and continue to protect pupils and school communities.
