KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- The appointment of South Indian film icon Vijay as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu symbolises the people’s struggle and proves that perseverance and courage in defending one’s principles can ultimately earn a strong public mandate, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
He said Vijay’s political journey mirrors the long struggle of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who endured political challenges and pressures for more than a decade before becoming Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister.
“Both figures prove that true struggle is born from sincerity, sacrifice and courage in defending the people’s voice,” he said in a statement today.
Ramanan said Vijay’s transition from the entertainment industry to the highest leadership position in Tamil Nadu reflects the people’s confidence in a leader who is close to the grassroots and understands the aspirations of the grassroots.
According to Ramanan, the victory marks a new chapter for Tamil Nadu in strengthening development, unity and public well-being.
“I believe that under Vijay’s leadership, Tamil Nadu will continue to progress as a progressive, inclusive and people-oriented state.
“I also hope relations and cooperation between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu will continue to be strengthened in areas such as the economy, education, human capital development and culture, as both sides share deep historical and cultural ties,” he said.
Ramanan added that the long-standing brotherly relationship between the Malaysian community and the people of Tamil Nadu remains an important foundation that should be preserved for future generations.
Vijay, or his true name Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay, 52, who recently transitioned from a prolific acting career to full-time politics, led his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to a significant victory in the state elections, following in the footsteps of several legendary film figures in Tamil Nadu's political history.
