GEORGE TOWN, May 13 (Bernama) -- Penang, through the state branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), is targeting the implementation of 1,440 Rahmah MADANI Sales Programmes (PJRM) in all 40 state constituencies this year.
Domestic Trade and Community Unity Committee chairman Goh Choon Aik said the programme will be held three times a month in each constituency to ensure the public has access to essential goods at more affordable prices.
“As of April 30, a total of 962 programmes have been successfully carried out statewide, offering daily necessities at 10 to 30 per cent lower than market prices,” he said in his winding-up speech on the motion of thanks for the Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib's address at the Penang state legislative assembly here today.
Goh said the Penang State Executive Council Committee on Domestic Trade and Cost of Living was established on March 18 to serve as a strategic coordination platform in addressing issues related to domestic trade, price stability, supply of essential goods and consumer welfare more effectively.
He added that the committee also coordinates price and supply monitoring, strengthens state food security, addresses cost-of-living issues and accelerates the implementation of intervention measures and comprehensive solutions.
Meanwhile, Goh said 193 community projects have been approved, involving a total grant value of more than RM18.1 million for the implementation of the Sejati MADANI Programme by the Village Community Management Councils (MPKK) in Penang from 2024 to April 2026.
He said of the total, Seberang Perai Utara recorded 62 projects, Seberang Perai Selatan (42), Seberang Perai Tengah (40), Timur Laut (29) and Barat Daya (20).
“Among successful MPKK projects are the rock melon project by MPKK Bandar Perda, agricultural drone project by MPKK Kampung Terus, chilli fertigation project by MPKK Permatang Langsat, tourist boat project by MPKK Pulau Aman and Kampung Bagan Bukit Tambun,” he said.
The Sejati MADANI Programme is a government initiative aimed at boosting community-level economic activities to increase income, with funding of up to RM100,000 provided to eligible communities.
