PUTRAJAYA, May 13 (Bernama) -- Newly appointed Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman has pledged to prioritise efforts to restore public confidence in the commission by strengthening enforcement, enhancing transparency and ensuring investigations are conducted professionally and fairly.
In a statement today, Abd Halim said restoring public trust was not an option but an urgent necessity to ensure the MACC remains firm, transparent and accountable, fully guided by the rule of law.
“At the same time, the MACC will continue to strengthen preventive measures, reinforce protection for whistleblowers and enhance strategic cooperation with all stakeholders to cultivate a culture of integrity in the country,” he said.
Abd Halim, who was appointed on a two-year contract effective today until May 12, 2028, also stressed that corruption in any form was completely unacceptable and represented a serious betrayal of the people and a threat to the nation’s future.
“As such, I call on all Malaysians to rise together in rejecting corruption because it is a shared responsibility. With determination and unity, we can build a nation founded on integrity, justice and trust,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the government for the trust and confidence placed in him to shoulder the responsibility as MACC chief commissioner.
Drawing on his experience in the judiciary, Abd Halim said he would uphold a strong foundation based on the rule of law and ensure that the process of justice would never be compromised under any circumstances.
He said he hoped to help shape a stronger, more credible and fully independent MACC capable of carrying out its duties without fear or favour.
Abd Halim also gave his assurance that the MACC under his leadership would act firmly and fairly against any party found abusing power, regardless of rank, position or influence.
