IPOH, May 15 (Bernama) -- The body of the 12th victim in the boat capsize off Pulau Pangkor was found this morning as the search and rescue (SAR) operation entered its fifth day.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Perak said in a statement that the body of the woman was found by local fishermen 31.5 nautical miles from the scene of the incident.
"The victim's body was subsequently transferred to an MMEA vessel, PERKASA 1239, and arrived at the Marine Police Force jetty in Kampung Acheh at 2.35 pm," it said.
The SAR operation, which began as early as 7 am today, is covering a search area of about 215.14 square nautical miles from the location of the incident.
A total of seven assets are involved in the operation, namely KM Malawali and Benteng 1203 from the MMEA; KD Sri Indera Sakti, FCB 1001 and FCB 1030 from the Royal Malaysian Navy; and PSC 16 and PSC 24 from the Marine Police Force, in the search for the two remaining missing victims.
In the May 11 incident, a boat believed to be carrying 37 Indonesian migrants reportedly sank about 8.2 nautical miles off Pulau Pangkor while en route to several destinations in Malaysia. So far, 23 survivors have been rescued.
