MUAR, May 16 (Bernama) -- The Agro MADANI Peladang@NAFAS Mall Festival, organised through the National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS) and the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP), is expected to boost local product marketing while supporting the nation’s food security agenda.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the festival also allows the public to purchase fresh agricultural produce at discounts of up to 30 per cent, in addition to the Agro MADANI Sales Combo initiative priced at RM15.
“This initiative not only strengthens the local agro-food ecosystem, but also serves as an important platform to connect products from farmers, breeders and agricultural entrepreneurs directly with consumers.
“The role of farmers extends beyond food production, as they also help ensure the stability of the nation’s food supply amid challenges such as global economic uncertainty, climate change and rising production costs,” he said after officiating the event here today, attended by NAFAS general manager Muhammad Faris Arriffin.
Chan said the government remained committed to strengthening the national agriculture ecosystem through various forms of support, including technology adoption, market access, entrepreneur development and enhancement of the agro-food industry value chain.
He also commended NAFAS for establishing a strategic collaboration with Megamart Supermarket to expand the marketing of PELADANG-branded products through modern retail networks.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Faris said several PELADANG products, including 3-in-1 beverages, coconut milk and sardines, had begun to be marketed through the Megamart Supermarket chain under the collaboration.
He said NAFAS Mall, which began operations in April 2012, had evolved into one of the community’s economic hubs, housing 23 tenants including Megamart Supermarket, Mr. D.I.Y, KFC, Guardian and Mixue.
Located along the main Muar-Melaka route, the commercial centre is also planned for expansion with concepts featuring Malay clothing, a multipurpose hall and community activities in the future.
The two-day festival, which began today, features Agro MADANI Sales, PELADANG product promotions, NAFAS product briefing sessions and the launch of Buku Panduan Pembajaan: Tanaman Agrokomoditi dengan Baja Peladang.
The festival is held in collaboration with the Johor State Farmers’ Organisation (PPNJ), the Muar, Tangkak and Segamat Area Farmers’ Organisations (PPK), the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM), the Muar Area Fishermen’s Association (PNK) and Megamart Supermarket.
