KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB), through a strategic collaboration with Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad (YGMB), today launched three takaful protection schemes for educators in conjunction with the National Teachers’ Day Celebration 2026.
The schemes, comprising Skim Pendidik Muda, Skim Pendidik Perdana and Skim Pendidik Budiman, are specifically designed to provide comprehensive, accessible and affordable financial protection for teachers and support staff nationwide under the Ministry of Education (MOE).
In a statement, GETB said all three protection schemes are carefully structured to meet the needs of educators at various stages of their careers and life journeys, with an emphasis on relevant and affordable protection.
It said Skim Pendidik Muda is targeted at educators beginning their careers, offering protection covering death, total and permanent disability (TPD), as well as 50 critical illnesses, with monthly contributions starting from RM20.
Skim Pendidik Perdana, meanwhile, is designed for teachers with families, protecting members, spouses and children at RM49 per month, while Skim Pendidik Budiman focuses on long-term protection up to the age of 70, offering similar comprehensive benefits with contributions of RM45 per month.
The company said all three schemes offer high-value protection at a daily cost of about RM0.66 to RM1.63, making them an affordable protection solution for educators in Malaysia.
“With an estimated more than 500,000 educators within the MOE ecosystem, this initiative leverages the strength of YGMB’s membership network and credibility as a foundation for educators, in line with its community-based approach and ‘Daripada Guru Untuk Guru’ philosophy since its establishment in 1994,” read the statement.
It said the initiative also supports the national agenda of enhancing financial literacy and financial resilience among educators nationwide.
Meanwhile, GETB head of marketing Rashida Mior Ahmad Darwish said the launch reflected GETB’s commitment to providing inclusive and sustainable takaful protection plans for the education community.
“Our strategic collaboration with YGMB enables us to deliver nationwide protection solutions that prioritise the needs of teachers and MOE support staff, while exploring opportunities for long-term, high-impact partnerships.
“We also deeply appreciate the contributions of teachers and support staff through the affordable products offered. This approach is aligned with the role of educators as the backbone of quality human capital development while building the nation holistically,” she said.
Meanwhile, YGMB chief executive officer Datuk Wan Munadi Wan Mamat said the collaboration provides practical, affordable and relevant protection aligned with the realities faced by educators.
“Launching these schemes in conjunction with Teachers’ Day is especially meaningful, as it not only recognises the contributions of teachers but also helps safeguard their future and that of their families,” he said.
Earlier, the launch was officiated by Deputy Director-General of Education (School Operations Sector) Zainal Abas, where a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between GETB and YGMB was also held, witnessed by YGMB chairman Datuk Abdul Muie Ngah and Rashida.
