KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Muamalat) has strengthened its commitment to empowering communities after successfully setting a national record through its ‘Jom Bijak Wang’ programme, recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR).
The programme received recognition as the Highest Altitude Financial Literacy Programme in a Skyscraper following its organisation on Level 83 of the Petronas Twin Towers at a height of 358 metres.
Bank Muamalat Chief Operating Officer Zury Rahimee Zainal Abiden said the programme aimed to empower Malaysians with financial knowledge, particularly in expenditure and savings management.
“We started this programme from the early stages, involving schoolchildren, and we will move to different segments, including university students and later those in the working sector as well.
“We also have many programmes involving other groups, for example with the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), to strengthen financial knowledge as this group is among those with limited exposure,” he told reporters at the ‘Jom Bijak Wang’ programme on Level 83 of the Petronas Twin Towers here today.
The programme brought together 30 students from orphan, asnaf (tithe recipient) and B40 communities to enhance their understanding and financial management skills through interactive and practical approaches.
Among the programme’s main focuses were prudent money management, sustainable financial planning and understanding the role of digital banking in daily life.
The programme also featured the ‘Jom Bijak Wang bersama Ringgit Rayyan’ session delivered by Bank Muamalat Head of Social Finance Department Zaharuddin Alias and the ‘Jom Kenal Perbankan Digital’ session by Bank Muamalat Digital Banking Manager Azmeer Nizam.
The event also saw the presentation of contributions amounting to RM5,000 to two welfare homes as continuous support towards the well-being of those in need, in addition to the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Commenting further, Zury Rahimee said the programme, held in strategic collaboration with Petrosains, used fun learning methods to attract children’s interest in financial knowledge.
“It is very important now with various challenges, as financial knowledge teaches us to go back to basics. We only need to spend on necessities, we do not need to follow wants and so forth, so it is very important to ensure the public spends prudently…
“In the current economic situation, people need to spend wisely, save and so on. For me, the basics are very important,” he said.
