20-year Wait Ends For 61 Residents From KEDA Villages As They Receive Land Ownership Titles

18/05/2026 07:44 PM

SIK, May 18 (Bernama) -- A total of 61 residents received land ownership titles for Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) villages, officially ending their 20-year wait.

KEDA Chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said that all the recipients involved residents from four KEDA villages: Desa KEDA Sungai Semiar, Desa KEDA Telaga Batu, Desa KEDA Bendang Man, and Desa KEDA Sungai Senam.

He said the presentation of the land titles was made after all recipients successfully met the criteria set by KEDA for the ownership transfer process.

"The KEDA Village ownership title presentation program began in 2015 as part of KEDA's ongoing efforts to ensure that residents in the Hardcore Poor Housing Program (PPRT) settlements secure legal ownership of their residential lots.

"The main objective of this initiative is to grant private ownership to residents living in houses within KEDA PPRT settlements, in accordance with the established rules and conditions," he said.

Mahdzir said this when met by reporters after the Sik District KEDA Village Ownership Title Presentation Ceremony at Desa KEDA Sungai Semiar near here today.

He added that out of a total of 3,860 housing units across 44 KEDA PPRT settlements, 1,602 units have successfully been transferred to eligible residents.

"Among the villages involved in the Sik district are Desa KEDA Gulau, Bendang Man, Sungai Semiar, Sungai Senam, Telaga Batu, and Kota Aur, which comprise a total of 552 houses, including traditional and PPRT housing.

"The handover of these titles is seen as another ongoing commitment by KEDA to empower rural land ownership and improve the well-being of village communities in Kedah," he added.

Meanwhile, a married couple, Mohamad Rosdi Kasim, 54, and Faizah Ramli, 47, expressed their utmost gratitude now that their 20-year wait to secure the ownership title for their residential land has finally come to an end.

Mohamad Rosdi described the good news as a blessing ahead of the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations, which will be observed soon.
