KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare University (KPJU) has forged a partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England) to strengthen surgical standards, education, and research in Malaysia.
The collaboration aims to integrate KPJU’s academic health system with RCS England’s globally recognised surgical curricula, assessment frameworks and faculty expertise to enhance competency and expand access to internationally benchmarked qualifications.
KPJ Healthcare Berhad, in a statement today, said the partnership would also accelerate the translation of research into improved patient outcomes across the KPJ Health System (KPJHS) network of 30 specialist hospitals.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 today, officiated by Johor Corporation (JCorp) president and chief executive, who is also KPJU chairman, Prof (Hon) Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim and RCS England president, Tim Mitchell.
Speaking at the ceremony, Syed Mohamed said the agreement reflected a shared commitment to strengthening surgical education, enhancing standards of care and building future-ready capabilities for surgeons and surgical teams.
He said KPJHS had developed a strategic plan and implementation roadmap guided by health system convergence and shaped by emerging trends in healthcare, including artificial intelligence, genomics and value-based care.
Meanwhile, KPJU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Tunku Kamarul Zaman Tunku Zainol Abidin said the partnership reinforced the university's role in supporting postgraduate progression and fellowship development, while aligning education, training and research with evolving clinical practices and international standards.
According to the statement, KPJU was on track to further expand its international education and research network, building on existing partnerships with leading institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, University College London, and the University of Melbourne.
The university is also planning future engagements with Imperial College Healthcare to advance executive education, structured fellowship pathways and joint research, further positioning KPJU as a regional hub for healthcare excellence.
The statement said the collaboration with RCS England reinforced KPJ’s commitment to building an integrated and future-ready healthcare system that aligns education, clinical practice and research to deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes.
Also present at the signing ceremony was KPJ Healthcare president and managing director Chin Keat Chuan.
