BUTTERWORTH, May 22 (Bernama) -- The PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena here has achieved a major milestone in the regional Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry after being named Leading Convention Centre of the Year 2025 - Malaysia at the Asian Tourism and Hospitality Awards 2025-26, on May 14.
In a statement today, PICCA Convention Centre said the recognition further strengthens its position as a premier venue capable of hosting high-profile national and international conventions, including high-security events, while delivering quality food, service and infrastructure.
Its chief operating officer, James Chang, was also quoted as saying that the recognition reflected the collective operational excellence of the entire PICCA team, rather than individual effort.
“Every single event we host is executed with a shared #majuPICCA mindset, ensuring our clients receive world-class standards at every touchpoint. This award proves that our hospitality strategy is working,” he said.
PICCA said the latest achievement builds on the convention centre’s strong track record, including its Malaysia Book of Records entry for hosting the largest claypot meal eating session involving 2,500 participants.
It had also received the Malaysia Business Events Award merit award in the Purpose-Built Convention and Exhibition Centre Excellence category, as well as the Gold Category Award under the Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MyTQA) programme by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, recently.
The statement said the recognition came at a pivotal time as PICCA Convention Centre prepares to take on a bigger national and regional role, including as the host venue for the Hari Wartawan Nasional (HAWANA) 2026 celebration from June 19 to 21.
HAWANA 2026 will carry the theme “Media Integrity Strengthens Credibility” to empower media practitioners’ role in national development, with the main ceremony to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in recognition of their service and contributions.
HAWANA, the largest gathering of Malaysian media practitioners, is organised by the Communications Ministry with Bernama as the implementing agency.
