KANGAR, May 25 (Bernama) -- The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has called for the Nakawan Range to be protected as the ‘Living Soul of Perlis’, a symbol of nature’s beauty and the strength of the state’s heritage, for present and future generations.
His Royal Highness expressed hope that the conservation and sustainable development efforts undertaken would bring lasting benefits to the people while elevating Perlis as a world-class ecotourism destination.
The Raja of Perlis said this in conjunction with the launch of the publication and documentary ‘NAKAWAN – The Living Soul of Perlis / Nadi Bumi Perlis’ here last night. His royal address was delivered by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who officiated the launch on behalf of His Royal Highness, as stated in a statement issued by Istana Arau today.
Also in attendance was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin greatly appreciated the publication of the book and documentary, as they not only showcase the natural beauty of Perlis but also raise public awareness of the true value of the Nakawan Range.
‘NAKAWAN – The Living Soul of Perlis / Nadi Bumi Perlis’ is a nature and cultural documentary project highlighting the importance of the Nakawan Range as the backbone of the ecosystem and socio-cultural heritage of Perlis.
The statement said the documentary, produced by Roots & Shoots Malaysia, traces a 36-kilometre journey along Malaysia’s oldest limestone range, stretching from Wang Kelian to Kuala Perlis.
It also features a series of narratives touching on the lives of local communities, traditional heritage, and the unique, lush natural landscapes surrounding the Nakawan Range.
The Raja of Perlis also extended his congratulations and appreciation to all parties involved in supporting and making the project a success.
