Journalists On Frontline In Defending Information Integrity - Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said journalists must remain on the front line in defending the integrity of information at a time when slander can spread in an instant and perception often outweighs reality.

“The role of journalists is not confined to recording events, but also as an important voice in upholding the truth when society is confronted with confusion and speculation,” he said in a Facebook post in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) today.

He said every report requires careful scrutiny, verification, and a strong sense of responsibility, as public trust is not easily earned but is built on honesty, transparency, and consistent commitment.

“When integrity is upheld as a guiding principle and truth is placed as the highest priority, journalists will continue to stand as a bulwark of credible information.

“Ultimately, journalism is not only about reporting the news, but about preserving trust and safeguarding credibility,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works (KKR) also conveyed its appreciation to members of the media fraternity who continue to deliver credible, trustworthy and integrity-driven reporting.

It said ethical journalism plays an important role in strengthening national unity, harmony and stability.

“Fair and fact-based reporting can enhance public awareness of current issues and contribute towards shaping a mature and well-informed society,” the ministry said in a Facebook post.

KKR also expressed hope that the journalism profession would continue to be strengthened as a pillar of national development in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.

Meanwhile, Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan stressed the importance of fact-based, ethical and responsible reporting in maintaining public trust.

He said the media plays a vital role in shaping an informed and mature society, thereby strengthening national unity and the values of Malaysia MADANI.

“Through writing, visuals, photography and various communication platforms, media practitioners serve as an important bridge between the people and the nation,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to all media friends for their continued support, cooperation and commitment.

“Your service, dedication and sacrifices in delivering information to the public are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your efforts and commitment,” he said.

The Home Ministry (KDN) also expressed its highest appreciation to all media practitioners for their commitment to delivering accurate, responsible and integrity-driven information to the public.

In a post on Facebook, Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the media plays an important role as a strategic partner of the nation in building an informed society and strengthening unity.

“Journalists play a vital role as a bridge of information between the government and the people in strengthening the nation’s stability, security and well-being.

“The primary role of media practitioners is to deliver authentic and fact-based information in order to foster a society that is well-informed, while also strengthening democracy and good governance,” he said.

The ministry also conveyed its appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of media practitioners who have consistently remained on the frontline, including during crises, disasters and national security challenges.
