UUM, TYMBA Sign MoU To Help Asnaf Students Become Certified Accountants

03/06/2026 10:00 PM

ALOR SETAR, June 3 (Bernama) -- Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and TYMBA Education Group (TYMBA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today to assist asnaf students and the B40 group of the university in becoming certified accountants.

UUM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed said the MoU also aims, among other things, to break down the financial barriers that often hinder underprivileged students from obtaining professional licences.

"This will witness a strategic integration in providing training and examination platforms for world-renowned professional bodies such as the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), MICPA (Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants), ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wale) or CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).

"This collaboration is a testament to the university's commitment to enhance the employability of graduates, particularly through the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM), which is internationally recognised," he said in a statement today.

He said that his team understands that the cost of professional examinations is high and it often becomes a constraint for asnaf and B40 students.

"Therefore, the university is now examining inclusive sponsorship mechanisms, including channelling zakat funds to finance their professional licences. We want to ensure that financial constraints are no longer an excuse for them to fail in competing in the competitive job market.

"This step is also seen as UUM's strong support for the nation's aspiration to produce 60,000 professional accountants in the future," he also said.

Meanwhile, TYMBA Education Group chief executive officer Airil Razali said that the signing of the MoU is a continuation of the collaborative relationship that has been established between TYMBA and TISSA-UUM for almost a year.

"TYMBA is a global professional accounting education centre committed to helping accounting students from the early stages of university studies until they step into the workforce, especially the asnaf and Bumiputera B40 groups.

"We are ready to offer various forms of sponsorship and support to students to ensure that they not only succeed in completing their studies but also obtain professional qualifications and subsequently become certified accountants who meet industry requirements," he also said.

He added that their goal is to help and guide accounting students from university level until they successfully build careers in the industry and become certified accountants and professionals who can contribute to the development of the country.
