SABAK BERNAM, June 4 (Bernama) -- The Selangor state government has allocated RM25 million for the agricultural sector to help farmers, including padi farmers, fishermen, livestock breeders and aquaculture entrepreneurs cope with rising input, fuel and food production operational costs.
State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim said the special incentive under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package is expected to benefit 14,131 entrepreneurs and farmers across the state, ensuring the continuity of domestic food production and stability of the state’s agri-food sector.
“This intervention is crucial to ensure the sustainability of our food supply chain, particularly in facing current global economic challenges.
“Through this targeted assistance, the state government hopes to mitigate the impact of inflation on the people’s overall cost of living by maintaining domestic production capabilities and productivity of local entrepreneurs,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the launch of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package for the agriculture sector at Dewan Sri Bernam, Sungai Besar, here today.
Earlier, the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, attended the event, which was held on the second day of Gagasan Rumpun Selangor 2026 programme for the Sabak Bernam district.
Of the total, Izham said the padi subsector will receive RM8.75 million in cash aid, benefiting 7,387 padi farmers covering 17,500 hectares, while other farmers will receive RM6.19 million in fertiliser input assistance.
“We (the state government) provided assistance to the fishermen first, who already received subsidies, but if it is insufficient, we will add another RM300 per person for the next six months, totalling RM1,800 per fisherman.
“This assistance is given in the form of petrol and diesel subsidies, as some fishermen use petrol while others use diesel. Padi farmers will receive RM500 per hectare, which will be credited directly into their accounts via Agrobank in the near future,” he said.
For the fisheries subsector, he said fuel assistance totalling RM3.92 million will be distributed to 2,178 fishermen, including inland fishermen, while the livestock sector will receive RM5.4 million in animal feed assistance benefiting 2,000 breeders, followed by RM729,000 for 270 aquaculture entrepreneurs.
He said these initiatives are the first components to ensure that the state’s food supply chain remains well-managed and resilient.
In a related development, Izham said the state government has also implemented the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) programme at 779 locations in Selangor, with an allocation of RM10 million to help ease the cost of living through the provision of 12 essential items.
He added that the intervention is further strengthened with a RM50 million allocation to stabilise the Selangor Food Warehouse (GMS) mechanism as the state’s strategic buffer stock, funded jointly by the state government and the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS).
