Embracing Rukun Negara In Line With Islamic Teachings In A Multicultural Society - YADIM

PUTRAJAYA, June 5 (Bernama) -- Embracing the principles of the Rukun Negara is in line with Islamic teachings that promote brotherhood, mutual respect, justice, and the collective responsibility to safeguard peace in a diverse society, said Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM).

Its president, Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom, said that as a dakwah institution committed to nation-building and the development of the ummah, YADIM views the values of unity and harmony embodied in the Rukun Negara as being in line with Islamic teachings.

He said effective dakwah not only serves to strengthen the relationship between human beings and Allah SWT, but also fosters harmony among people in a society comprising diverse races and religions.

“YADIM upholds the decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who reminded all Malaysians to embrace the principles of the Rukun Negara as the foundation of unity, harmony and stability,” he said in a statement today.

Hasan said His Majesty’s call for all parties to observe proper conduct, exercise restraint in speech and avoid provoking sensitive issues is also in line with Islamic dakwah values, which emphasise wisdom, prudence and good moral conduct in every action and utterance.

Hasan said the May 13, 1969, tragedy serves as a reminder that peace and unity should never be taken for granted.

“The stability we enjoy today has created opportunities for economic growth, national development, and the well-being of the people," he said.

He said that in the digital era, challenges to national unity have also emerged through the spread of misinformation, hate speech, and provocations on social media.

As such, he said every Malaysian should practise ‘tabayyun’ (verification of information), communicate responsibly, and prioritise facts over sentiment.

He added that differences in opinion should never be used as a pretext to undermine the interethnic, interreligious, and intercultural ties that are among Malaysia's greatest strengths.

He also said YADIM believes that the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI can only be realised in an environment of peace, stability, and mutual trust, with dakwah serving as a platform to nurture a culture of knowledge, strengthen understanding, and foster unity among Malaysia's diverse racial and religious communities.

In this regard, he called on Malaysians to heed His Majesty's decree by strengthening the spirit of national unity and rejecting all forms of hatred and divisive politics in the interest of a peaceful and prosperous future for the nation.
