KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- The Trooping of the Colours ceremony by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) held in conjunction with the official birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong reflects the Malaysian Armed Forces’ (ATM) unwavering dedication and loyalty to the King and the nation.

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the ceremony featured the five royal colours, paraded by the Royal Malay Regiment, Royal Ranger Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps, Royal Malaysian Navy and the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

“The colours are a tribute and symbol of pride, patriotism and unwavering loyalty of the MAF to the King and the nation,” he posted.

Anwar had earlier accompanied His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, in gracing the ceremony held at Dataran Pahlawan Negara, Putrajaya.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman.

Meanwhile, Fahmi, also in a Facebook post, said the ceremony is a military tradition that plays a significant role in fostering patriotism while honouring the nation’s history and the sacrifices made in safeguarding its sovereignty.

“Congratulations to the 148 officers and 1,192 personnel from all three branches of the MAF who ensured the successful organisation of this ceremony.

“May all members of the MAF continue to be blessed with strength, good health and protection in carrying out their duty to safeguard the country’s peace and sovereignty,” Fahmi posted.

The Trooping of the Colours ceremony is held three times during the five-year reign of each Malay Ruler appointed as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong - in the first, third and final years of the reign.
