LPA Reminds Private Jetties To Handle Only Own Company Cargo

LABUAN, June 5 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Port Authority (LPA) has reminded all private jetty operators in Labuan that their facilities are only permitted to handle cargo belonging to their own companies and not general cargo or cargo owned by third parties.

LPA general manager Mizool Amir Mat Drus said the reminder was issued through a letter dated June 4 to all private jetty operators on the island.

He said all shipping, cargo handling and jetty operations must comply with federal laws and licensing conditions imposed by the relevant government agencies.

“The LPA is responsible for ensuring that all shipping, cargo handling and jetty operations comply with federal laws and the licensing conditions set by government agencies to safeguard safety and economic sovereignty in Labuan waters,” he told Bernama today.

Mizool said private jetties were approved solely for the handling of cargo belonging to the respective companies.

He said any cargo handled at these jetties must be properly declared and comply with the approval granted by the Customs Department.

“The LPA will take appropriate action if there is any form of non-compliance with this requirement,” he said.

Mizool also urged all private jetty operators to strengthen internal monitoring and ensure their operations remained within the scope of approvals granted by the authorities.

He said continued cooperation from jetty operators was vital to preserve the integrity of Labuan’s port and maritime activities.
