KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today visited his longtime friend Syed Hamid Ali during a stop in Batu Pahat, Johor.
In a Facebook post, Anwar described Syed Hamid, or Pak Hamid, as one of the key figures in the student movement when they were at University Malaya.
“He was among the leading figures in the student movement at University Malaya and was outspoken in his advocacy for social justice and the rights of the underprivileged,” he said.
The Prime Minister said they spent time reminiscing during the meeting, including recalling a red jacket Syed Hamid had lent him at an overseas conference decades earlier.
“Unfortunately, I could not return the jacket as it was lost in Tok Kun,” he said.
Anwar praised Syed Hamid’s steadfast commitment to his cause and his willingness to share views and guidance.
He also prayed that Syed Hamid and his family would be blessed with good health and continued well-being.
Anwar said he also conveyed greetings from his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, while Syed Hamid presented him with a self-penned memoir titled Kenangan Seorang Patriot.
Kenangan Seorang Patriot recounts his life as an activist, former student leader and champion of social justice.
