KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today congratulated national men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani on their victory at the Indonesia Open Badminton Championships yesterday.
He also expressed hope that the world No. 8 duo would continue their impressive run and achieve greater success on the international stage.
“After finishing runners-up at the Malaysia Masters two weeks ago, Sze Fei and Izzuddin have bounced back in style to capture the Indonesia Open title. Congratulations on this proud achievement.
“This victory ends Malaysia’s 18-year wait for the men’s doubles crown at the Indonesia Open, one of the most prestigious Super 1000 tournaments,” he said in a Facebook post today.
In the final at Istora Senayan in Jakarta yesterday, Sze Fei and Izzuddin fought back from a set down to defeat Indonesia’s Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin 13-21, 21-18, 21-10 in 49 minutes.
The triumph marked Malaysia’s first men’s doubles title at the Indonesia Open since Zakry Abdul Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari lifted the trophy in 2008.
