Communications Ministry To Discuss Empowering MSMEs Through 5G - Fahmi

SHAH ALAM, June 9 (Bernama) -- The Communications Ministry will hold discussions with industry players to explore the potential of 5G technology in empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Its Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the discussions would be held in the near future to ensure that initiatives aimed at strengthening entrepreneurs can be brought to the attention of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) for consideration in the formulation of Budget 2027.

“We will hold discussions so that we can bring several proposals to the attention of the MOF for consideration. There may be several incentives that can be provided (to MSME entrepreneurs), subject to decisions made by the MOF.

“For this effort, we want MSMEs to see for themselves how 5G technology can be leveraged for their business operations,” he said after the launch of CelcomDigi’s Advanced Intelligent Warehouse in Section 23 here today.

Fahmi said he had also instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to hold discussions with telecommunications companies to identify applications that could benefit from the wider adoption of 5G technology in the country.

In a related development, he said 5G network coverage in Malaysia has reached 84 per cent and is targeted to increase to 98 per cent by 2030.

CelcomDigi's Advanced Intelligent Warehouse, launched by Fahmi today, can optimise space utilisation by 30 per cent, boost operational efficiency by more than 50 per cent and achieve inventory accuracy of up to 100 per cent through the integration of the company’s 5G-SA network, artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems.

The integrated ecosystem also enhances workplace safety by reducing repetitive manual tasks and limiting exposure to potentially hazardous work through autonomous systems, AI-powered monitoring and real-time notifications.
