KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- Allianz Malaysia Berhad (Allianz Malaysia) has contributed a specialised ambulance to the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sandakan Branch to strengthen emergency medical response and improve healthcare access in remote communities across Sandakan, Sabah.
In a statement, Allianz Malaysia said the ambulance was officially unveiled during the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day celebration at Yu Yuan Secondary Hall in Sandakan on May 9.
The modified double-cab ambulance, designed for off-road and hard-to-reach terrain, is expected to benefit thousands of residents in remote areas where access to healthcare has traditionally been limited.
“It will enable responders to reach patients in remote locations more efficiently, deliver urgent care and facilitate faster transfers to medical facilities,” the statement said.
According to Allianz Malaysia, the initiative will help improve response times and expand operational reach, contributing to better health outcomes and community wellbeing.
The company said MRC Sandakan has long relied on a limited and ageing fleet, including vehicles that have been in service for more than 30 years, affecting its ability to meet growing demand for emergency medical assistance.
Allianz Malaysia chief executive officer Sean Wang said the contribution reflects the company's commitment to supporting resilient communities.
“At Allianz Malaysia, we believe our responsibility extends beyond providing financial protection to making a meaningful difference in people's lives.
"By enhancing emergency response capabilities in underserved areas, we are helping to bridge protection gaps and ensure that more Malaysians have access to critical care when it matters most," he said.
Meanwhile, MRC Sandakan Branch chairperson Josie Pang said reaching patients in remote parts of Sandakan often involves navigating difficult terrain and travelling long distances, which can delay critical treatment.
“We are grateful for this contribution as it strengthens our operational readiness, enabling our teams to reach underserved communities more efficiently and provide better support during emergencies,” she said.
The collaboration highlights the role of public-private partnerships in improving healthcare accessibility and building more inclusive and resilient communities.
