'Majlis Lentera Batik 2026' Introduces Perak Batik As State's Textile Identity

TANJONG MALIM, June 10 (Bernama) -- The 'Majlis Lentera Batik 2026' carries a significant mission to introduce Perak batik as a unique and highly valued identity of the state's textile art, rooted in history, culture, and local creativity that continues to evolve with the passage of time.

Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said that the event serves as a platform that brings together tradition and innovation, combining heritage with creativity, and connecting the past with the future.

"Through the traditional attire that will be presented, we have the opportunity to witness how the fabric and pattern can speak about the history, identity and character of a nation," he said at the event themed 'Menyinari Seni Adibusana Warisan Perak' held at the Tuanku Canselor Hall, Sultan Azlan Shah UPSI Campus here today.

The Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim graced the occasion.

Md Amin said that universities also play an important role as a bridge connecting cultural heritage with the younger generation through education and creative innovation.

"Through the active involvement of students in the entire process of producing this collection, UPSI not only produces highly skilled graduates but also a generation of cultural heirs who understand the values of history, art and national identity.

"This is the holistic education approach that the university wants to continue to strengthen," said Md Amin.

The event also showcased the results of a strategic collaboration between the Perak Menteri Besar Incorporated, Kraftangan Malaysia, and UPSI in the development and production of the 'Batik Cura Perak' collection.

A total of 30 exclusive designs were presented across various categories of clothing, including men's shirts, baju kurung, baju kebaya, as well as skirts and blouses.

The entire process of producing the collection was driven by UPSI students from the Faculty of Technical and Vocational Education, covering idea and concept development, fashion design, fabric selection, sewing processes and stage performance management.

The uniqueness of the event was further highlighted when the collection was showcased by UPSI students, including international students from Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Austria, Kazakhstan, Germany, Pakistan and China, thereby proving that the heritage of Perak batik has a universal appeal that transcends cultural and national boundaries.
